Diabetes

Diabetes occurs when the body cannot regulate the amount of glucose in the blood because there is a problem with the effectiveness or production of insulin. Insulin normally reduces blood glucose levels as it transports glucose into the cells of the body. In diabetes this does not happen and cells do not have glucose available to them and so use proteins and fat for energy production. Severe uncontrolled diabetes may lead to a diabetic coma and death.
